‘7am Arivu ‘now in Hindi also

Director Murugadoss’ ‘7-am Arivu’ has got bigger with a Hindi version also officially added now. The film which was meant to be in Tamil and Telugu will now have a Hindi version also and that will serve as a re-launch pad for Shruthi in Bollywood.

It is said that, Kamal Haasan was the first choice of Murugadoss for ‘7-am Arivu’ but when he approached, Kamal suggested to work with Shruthi instead. As Shruthi’s Bollywood career hasn’t taken off satisfactorily they have decided to use this film as a second launch.

Shruthi Kamal’s debut film in Bollywood ‘Luck’ was a commercial flop and this time it seems the father Kamal is taking the responsibility of getting things right for her daughter in Bollywood.

Now that ‘7am Arivu’ in Hindi also the new development is sure to increase the stake value of Surya in Bollywood. Suriya wil quickly have a Hindi release after his already completed ‘Raktha Chartira’.

‘Endhiran’ on September 3rd

Even as news about Shankar's approval to direct the Tamil, Telugu remakes of Hindi ‘3 Idiots’ is still raging there was some media reports that hinted his ambitious Rajinikanth film ‘Endhiran’ may not be released in August as told by the super star himself.

News floating today is almost confirming it. The new release date for ‘Endhiran’ could be September 3 according to some sources in Shankar's office.

Though there is no reason given for the postponement, it may be due to the enormous number of prints that will be generated for a worldwide release. In India alone ‘Endhiran’ is expected to strike 800 screens across the country. Japan and Chine will get 120 prints and for other global markets 160 prints are expected to fly. That means ‘Endhiran’ will have around 1500 prints in release and that will make it one of the biggest films of the world ever.

Madharasapattinam - Colonial Love and Bravery

It’s a long time since we had a period film in Tamil. The producers and the directors are terrified at doing a period film for the want of time, money and the efforts to create authentic details. When we say period film we don’t mean costume dramas like Imsai Arasan or Jaganmohini. We mean some thing like ‘Lagaan’ where the story happens in tune with the classic era.

AGS Entertainment which is producing many quality films of late has dared to venture into the difficult category of period films. The also have ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’ up for release which is a kind of remembering a bygone era, But the same banner is also the producer of a genuine period film in ‘Madharasapattinam’.

As the name suggests the film ‘Madharasapattinam’ is a period drama set in the back drop of pre-independence India in the then Madras under British Raj. To be more particular the film is set in the Madras of the 40s and takes place in Vannarapettai (Washermanpet) area.

‘Madharasapattinam’ is written and directed by A L. Vijay who has earned a name for him with city subjects like ‘Kireedam’ and ‘Poi Solla Porom’ before. This period drama will be a different experience for AL Vijay to prove that he is good at all genres.

‘Madharasapattinam’ is a story of a dhobi, who is also a wrestling champ. Problems arises when a British girl Amy Wilkinson falls in love with the Indian boy as it was forbidden back then.

Arya who had a tremendous response for ‘Naan Kadavul’ but failed to receive the same applause for the next ‘Sarvam’. Here Arya plays the role of Ilamparthi, a dhobi who is also a wrestling champ. So Arya is hoping this film would resurrect his career which started off with very hopes. Arya knows the importance and has said from his heart ‘Madharasapattinam’ is bigger than his market value. The earnest actor is said to have performed his character with at most faithfulness much to the delight of his director. Arya says he had to work hard on his physique for the wrestler role. He also says that he wanted to look convincing as a wrestler and did his home work to imitate how a wrestler would fight, walk, or for that matter, behave in public.

Amy Jackson, the British actress who has also won the Miss Teen World title plays the role called Amy Wilkinson, the 18-year-old daughter of the governor of ‘Madharasapattinam’ who falls in love with Arya, the wrestler-dhobi.

Nasser, late Cochin Haneefa, Alexx O’Neil, MS Bhaskar and Bala Singh play other important roles in the film.

Music of the film is by G V Prakash. G V Prakash must have already tested the requirements for ‘Madharasapattinam’ while doing ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ to some extent. The audio of the film was launched on April 4 in style. Kamal Haasan and Director Shankar released the audio from a set that re resembled the colonial era in every detail.

‘Madharasapattinam’ boasts of six songs penned by Na. Muthukumar. Roop Kumar Rathod, Harini, Andrea Jeremiah, G V. Prakash, Udit Narayan, VMC. Haneefa, Amy Jackson, Seenu, Naveen Iyer, Sonu Nigam, Saindhavi, Hariharan, Zia, Augustin Choir have rendered the songs.

Actor Cheeyan Vikram has also rendered a song 'Meghame Oh Meghame' with regal Madras feels and he has sung in five different voices, including that of a dhobi, a teacher and an old man. MS Viswanathan and Naseer have also performed with Vikram for this song.

Nirav Shah who worked for A L Vijay in ‘Kireedom’ and done most of Arya’s films till date is the cinematographer. Nirav’s camera work will be a special value to the film.

Editing is by Antony, Art Direction is by V Selvakumar and make up is by Pattanam Rasheed.

One of the expected films this year ‘Madharasapattinam’ is scheduled for this summer release.

Ajith Kumar was in Chennai for a short break in between his inaugural race at Silverstone, which took place on April 18 and the forthcoming races at Morocco on May 2.

Ajith took time off to answer a few questions pertaining to his current year''s race season at FIA 2010 Formula 2 Championship.

What is your assessment of yourself and your performance after the first two races?

I was pleased with my performance in the 2nd qualifying session. My main agenda for the race weekend at Silverstone was to finish both the races. Race 1 went very well. In Race 2 my car had a problem with the turbo. Around the 17th lap the engine lost revs completely. I had no other choice but to continue and finish the race. In the process I finished 2 laps down. My timing in race 2 was 1.5 secs slower compared to race 1. I was more concerned about finishing the race and gain as much track time as possible in the car.
What do you forecast at Morocco? What will be your strategy there?

Morocco as you know is a street circuit. I will have to study the circuit and understand from my race engineer as to what the best setup for the car should be. My strategy for Morocco will be to try and bridge the gap between the frontrunners and myself.
How many kilometers have you managed to clock in your car?

As of 18th April I must have covered approx 850 kms.
What is the composition of your technical support team?
Each car/driver has a dedicated mechanic, who will be permanent for all the events. Mr. Daniel is the name of my mechanic. There are 8 engineers involved in the championship, one for every 3 cars/drivers. The engineers will keep changing for every event. My engineer for Silverstone was Mr Leon. In case of any incident involving cars/major damage a special team of mechanics come in.
What is the kind of encouragement you receive from: Jonathan Palmer, Piers Hunnisett....others like James Gornall, Simon Melluish, Sam Tremayne?

Mr Jonathan Palmer has been very supportive. He is closely monitoring my progress. He makes it a point to come and give me valuable tips/advise after every test session/race. Most importantly he understands my passion for the sport and how important it is to take this sport to the rural areas in developing countries like India.

Mr Piers Hunnisett, who is a successful racecar driver himself handles my racing programme/career. He takes care of logistics for eg: travel plans/accommodation, licensing, insurance coverage for both car/driver and PR in U.K. He also provides driver coaching. Having Piers for help is god sent. I thank my friend Narain Karthikeyan for getting Mr Piers onboard.

Mr James Gornall is the Official F2 driver Co-0rdinator, who on behalf of the F2 organisation provides all the competitors with necessary information. Mr Simon Melluish & Mr Sam Tremayne on behalf of F2 handle all the media releases/ Driver Photo shoots etc. James, Simon and Sam have been extremely helpful. In short they make all the competitors feel at home.
Obviously your enthusiasm has increased manifold for you to get back to active racing. What is your main motivating factor?

Motorsports in India has definitely come a very long way. With 2 drivers from India making it to F1 (Narain Karthikeyan & Karun Chandhok), Mr Vijay Mallya owning India's 1st F1 Team (Force India). Hopefully India will also host an F1 event in 2011. It's time the sport reached the masses/rural areas. I hope that my mere participation helps take the sport to the masses.
What is the kind of support you have been getting from your family?

My family understands how much I love this sport. The very fact that they have accepted my decision to participate in a very fiercely competitive championship (F2) speaks volume of their support. My family and I strongly believe that life is not about winning or losing. It's about following our hearts and living our dreams!!
What is your overall budget for the entire season of racing?

Approximately 400,000 GBP. But this is only towards participation / accidental car insurance / driver insurance / travel / accommodation. For one to get competitive we would require more funds to hire personal race engineers / driver coach / trainer and track days in cars other than the F2 cars.
What is your target as you progress through the various rounds?

Target is to do the best I can in terms of my own abilities!!

Naan Sivanagiren - Gallery

Off-beat films have of late become a trend in Tamil cinema. Toeing the line of ‘Ram’, ‘Pithamagan’, ‘Kattradhu Tamizh’ and ‘Naan Kadavul’ is ‘Naan Sivanagiren’, a film directed by K Gnanasekar.

Besides wielding the megaphone, Gnanasekar is also taking care of story, screenplay and dialogues departments. Udhay Karthik, a new face is debuting as the hero with Varsha starring opposite him in female lead.

Sources say the film is about the protagonist taking the job of Lord Shiva to destroy wrongdoers. “Punishing a wrong doer isn't a sin for they can be adored as Gods. The hero assumes himself as Siva,” they say.

Saying the film will be very racy, sources add: “You can see some unexpected things in Naan Sivanagiren.” K Gokul is handling the camera while K S Manoj composes the music for the lyrics penned by Na Muthukumar, K Nishanth and V K Gnanasekar. C K is producing this film under the banner M N Creations.

Vijay’s villain is happy

“I have begun my career with two prestigious projects. The journey has just started and I am aware that I have miles to go,” says Dev Gill, who has entered Tamil cinema with ‘Sura’ after crossing swords with Ramcharan Teja in ‘Magadheera’.

Recalling how he was selected by Tollywood director S S Rajamouli to be part of ‘Magadheera’, Gill says, “The filmmaker was conducting audition for the villain role. When I visited his place, I realised that more than 600 people had turned up. However luck favoured me as Rajamouli thought that I would fit to the role.”

On bagging ‘Sura’ offer, he says, “I must thank Vijay. He was the one who recommended me to director S P Rajakumar when the latter was searching for a villain. I later learnt that Vijay was impressed with my performance in Magadheera.”

Showering praises on Vijay, he says, “I am proud that I am the villain of Vijay’s 50th movie. He was very friendly on sets and I became familiar with Tamil because of him. We are now like brothers.”

Racing Mania: Ajith interview to TOI

By SRINIVASA RAMANUJAM

Ajith has been experiencing a radically different life in the past few months. For, it’s been quite a while since the actor has been busy facing the camera! Instead, he’s been on the racing track, enjoying every minute with the machines that he loves so much. This year, Ajith will not be in town to celebrate his birthday much to the disappointment of his fans. CT got talking to the actor to gauge his passion for the sport and life beyond the camera a few hours before he left for the F-2 races in Morocco.

• Back on the track after a long time… how are you getting used to the machines?

Everything is going as planned. It’s a learning phase for me now, as I’m getting used to my car and its speed and setup. When it comes to racing, the more time you put in, the more you benefit. That’s exactly what I’m doing at the moment.

• Has your passion for racing increased?

Well, it’s always been there. I believe that there’s a time for everything. And, everything happens for a reason. I hate it when people say that racing is my hobby. It isn’t. It’s much more than that.

• But some people say that you’re not good enough as a racer…

I’ve come back to racing after six years; you obviously cannot expect a podium finish so soon! The least I can do is participate and give my best while racing. I could have easily given 200 days of my life to a producer and made money, but I’ve learnt that life isn’t about winning or losing; it’s about following your heart and living your dreams. I’m hoping that my participation will promote the sport and for that, I’m looking for like-minded people to collaborate with. Now that the cricket craze has died down post the IPL, I hope people will come forward to promote motorsport too. A sponsor, I feel, needs to have an emotional connect with the team and the racer.

• What plans do you have for your birthday and what’s your message to fans?

I’ll be racing in Morocco on my birthday. I just want to tell my fans to live their lives to the fullest. Pursue what your heart tells you and don’t be worried about failure.

SHALINI AND ANUSHKA MUST BE MISSING YOU ON THE HOME FRONT…

YES, THEY ARE. MY DAUGHTER IS VERY YOUNG AND SHE’S NOT USED TO SEEING ME DISAPPEAR FROM HOME FOR SO LONG. I’M TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT I COME HOME BETWEEN RACES, EVEN IF IT IS JUST FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. AND, ON THOSE DAYS, I ALWAYS SPEND TIME PLAYING WITH ANUSHKA.

WHEN IS THE GAUTHAM MENON FILM HAPPENING?

I’M IN TOUCH WITH GAUTHAM AND THE PRODUCER. IT’S GOING TO BE MUCH MORE THAN JUST MY 50TH FILM; WE’RE LOOKING AT MAKING A MOVIE THAT’LL BE A WIN-WIN FOR EVERYONE. I’M PLANNING TO SHOOT ONLY ONE FILM PER YEAR AND GIVE THE AUDIENCE A QUALITY PRODUCT. GAUTHAM AND I WILL START SHOOTING FROM OCTOBER. SO, TILL THEN, IT’S GOING TO BE MOTORSPORT.

Kamal’s next film Marmayogi – Marmayogi Latest Trailer and is Kajol too acting in this kamal’s film ??

Marmayogi, its none other but the 10 Avatar Kamal Hasan. Kamal who is continuously giving recrods is ready for next block buster. This time its a epic movie and kamal’s favourite subject. It may be recalled that his jumbo effort for MarudhaNayagam ended in vain. But these days with corporates coming into the film production, no dream is too big. We don’t know why kamal didn’t restart his pet prohject, but, he is starting yet another film on the same line – Marmayogi.

Even as Kamal Haasan ’s upcoming film Dasavatharam nears its release, the actor is already said to be planning his next movie. While ‘Dasavatharam’ is produced by Oscar Films and directed by K S Ravikumar, Kamal’s next, titled ‘Marmayogi’, will be directed and produced by the actor himself. If the latest buzz from downsouth is to be believed, Kamal has already started the pre-production work on his film and is thinking of signing Bollywood actress Kajol .

Ajith Next Police Story for 50th movie

A lot has been doing rounds about the next venture of Ajith, which happens to be his 50th film. While it is almost sure that Dhayanidhi Alagiri would produce the movie with Goutham Vasudev Menon directing it, the yet-to-be-titled film is a cop story, it is believed.

“Though Ajith played a police officer in ‘Anjaneya’, the film failed to evoke the expected response. Hence it is a longtime wish of the actor to do a chills-thrills-spills cop story. Sine his next is his milestone 50th film, he wanted to don the role of a police officer in it,” a source said.

Adding that Ajith felt Goutham Menon the right choice since the director is specialised in making police stories (‘Kakka Kakka’ and ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’), the source maintained that Dhayanidhi Alagiri was happy to produce an Ajith starrer.

“You might have notice Ajith flaunting a close-cropped haircut at the audio release of ‘Asal’ recently. The reason is his next film in which he would wear the khaki dress,” the source said and added: “This one would be a totally different police story Tamil cinema had ever seen.”

Sura - Big fish attracting the mass and class

Author: karthikforall // Category:

The day is closer than expected. A land mark in Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay’s career will be achieved on April 23 with the release of ‘Sura’ which is the 50th film of the actor.

‘Sura’ is produced by Sangili Murugan under the banner of Murugan Cine Arts for Sun pictures. Vijay’s first big hit ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’ which established him as a profitable actor hero was also produced by Sangili Murugan.

‘Sura’ is one of the most anticipated films of this summer for both the fans of Vijay and the trade. For Vijay fans any release of their hero is a cause for celebration. This time even they wait with bated breath to ensure a success because Vijay’s recent films did not create a flutter the box office. For the trade ‘Paiyaa’ success has to be repeated to repose faith in the people box office.

The 50th film of Vijay ‘Sura’ is said to be a remake of Mohanlal’s 2007 hit Malayalam film ‘Chotta Mumbai’ directed by Anwar Rasheed. ‘Chotta Mumbai’ was set in the backdrop of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry area and tells the story of a few easygoing young fishermen who are into anything for making money. But have their own personalities, and they even show emotion.

In Tamil according to the script, Vijay’s character is named as Sura, a fisherman. Some sources say Vijay’s character is molded some what similar to that of MGR in Padagotti and Meenava Nanban. Vijay also touches his political plans mildly in ‘Sura’.

In ‘Sura’ Vijay plays a young man who wants to change the society. Unlike the other youth of today Vijay doesn’t shy away from taking responsibilities upfront in order to good to his society. He even tries politics to achieve his ambitions. But even that disappoints Vijay and the he fights the enemies single handedly much like a Shark.

The by line of Vijay’s character is 'Samadhanama poga naan pura illadaa...Sura' which, if roughly translated, means 'I am not a dove to prefer peace, I am a shark". The film is expected to have Vijay fans on a high for long time.

The star value of the film is pretty high. Vijay is teaming up with the hottest Kollywood babe Tamannah for the first time. Vijay fans will not be disappointed as he utters enough punch dialogues to outline his future moves on and off screen. Tamannah will consolidate her position in the top league after ‘Paiyaa’. Vadivelu takes care of the comedy and the comic portions are expected to rock as it did in ‘Pokkiri’ and ‘Villu’ for a Vijay film.

The film was extensively shot tin the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The beauty of Pudhucherry, Cuddalore, Thoothukudi and Kochi coastlines will be visual treats. But some songs were shot overseas keeping with the tradition of Kollywood. The lead team went to New Zealand countryside for a song.

The film is also raved by insiders for the action scenes. Excellent camera work by N K Ekambaram and M S Prabhu. Several scenes in ‘Sura’ involved risky shots and they will be visual treats for action lovers. Fight master is Kanal Kannan and stuntmen from Bangkok are said to have executed some hair raising action scenes.

The songs are already on air. Music is by Mani Sharma. ‘Sura’ has 6 songs and they cater to each and every category of the audience. All songs except one are penned by Kabilan. Na. Muthukumar has written one song. The songs are peppy and fit for the super hero image of Vijay.

‘Sura’ is directed by S.P. Rajkumar, who was the writer of Vijay’s only film with Sivaji Ganesan ‘Oncemore’ and so he exactly knows what is expected of Vijay. Rajkumar is an experienced director having directed a couple of comedy ‘En Purushan Kuzhandhai Madhiri’ and ‘Ponmanam’ and the recent ‘Azhagarmalai’.

Sun Pictures will release ‘Sura’ and that has already ensured success. ‘Sura’ will be releasing big worldwide in over 400 screens.

Bharathiraja’s love affair

“Bharathiraja has a love affair in ‘Imayamum Sigaramum Irattaisuzhi’. This forms the crux of the film,” says director Thamira, who is counting the days for the movies’s release, scheduled for Friday (April 23).

“The film is not for children alone though it has many kids playing the pivotal roles. The movie is for everyone in the family. It is a feel good entertainer which would have a positive impact on the minds of the audience,” he says.

On the delay behind the film’s release, he says, “since we shot many scenes on school children, we had to wait patiently for their holidays. This is the reason behind taking so much time to complete the shoot.”

Releasing this Friday, the movie’s reservation has started today in theatres and multiplexes all over Tamil Nadu. Produced by Shankar on ‘S’ Picture banner, ‘Imayamum Sigaramum Irattaisuzhi’ has veteran directors K Balachander and Bharathiraja in lead roles, besides ‘Angadi Theru’ fame Anjali. The movie marks the comeback of music composer Karthik Raja.
